The Others — A new European documentary on labour, migration and sustainability

The Others

The Others. A film by Ofelia de Pablo & Javier Zurita.

Hakawatifilm presents in Europe The Others, a documentary that examines the hidden realities sustaining one of Europe’s most emblematic agricultural models.

Beneath Europe’s largest sea of greenhouses, Almería breaks export records year after year and has become one of the territories with the highest concentration of agriculture certified as sustainable on the continent. Its products reach millions of consumers across Europe under prestigious eco-labels, presented as a benchmark of ethical production.

Yet behind this success, thousands of migrant workers live without water or electricity, report labour abuses and, in some cases, extreme violence.

Through first-hand testimonies, clandestine recordings and an investigation developed with the support of the European DignityFIRM project, The Others documents the distance between sustainability as a promise and the social realities that sustain this agricultural model.

The film questions the human cost of a system that promises sustainability while rendering invisible the people who sustain it.

The documentary will be presented in March in Amsterdam and will continue in Brussels within the European institutional and parliamentary dialogue on migration, labour and sustainability.
