Pilgrims praying in front of the original tilma of Saint Juan Diego, which hangs above the altar of the Guadalupe Basilica in La Villa de Guadalupe. It is protected by bulletproof glass and low-oxygen atmosphere. Pilgrims can pray from a mechanical escalator that don’t let people stop. One of the most important pilgrimage sites of Catholicism, the basilica is visited by several million people every year (around 20 million) especially around 12 December, Our Lady of Guadalupe’s Feast day.
